Joseph Thomas Warner was born in Old Sodbury in 1896, he was the son of Joseph and Hannah Warner and brother of Bessie and Alice. His father was a farm labourer and baker who had been born in Yate. His mother died before 1911.

Joseph enlisted with the Royal Engineers in Bristol and became a sapper with the 66th Field Company. Joseph was Killed in Action in Gallipoli on the 22nd August 1915 and is remembered on the Helles Memorial (Panel 24 to 26 or 325 to 328) in Gallipoli, Turkey.

Joseph Thomas Warner is mentioned on the Yate Lych Gate Memorial, the Old Sodbury, St John's Church memorial and the Chipping Sodbury and District Memorial Cottage Hospital board, now at Yate and District Heritage Centre.
