Kenneth served on H. M. S. Penylan, Royal Navy and died on 3 December 1942. Kenneth was on board HMS Penylan when during the night of December 2nd/3rd 1941 it was sailing close to the harbour entrance at Salcombe, on escort duty, bringing a coastal convoy up the Channel. As the ships neared Start Point, HMS Penylan was torpedoed by German E-boat S115 and sank. Five officers and 112 ratings were rescued, but Kenneth along with others drowned. The bodies were brought ashore and some were buried in Salcombe.
