In June of 1944, shortly after D-Day, his regiment moved to Normandy as part of XXX Corps and in July was involved in actions along the river Odon. Laurence was wounded on the 3rd of July and remained at duty but was killed in action a month later. He was initially buried in Cuverville a town liberated from the Germans on 19th July.
