Leonard served with 103 Squadron, RAF Volunteer Reserve. Leonard was stationed at RAF Elsham Wolds North Lincolnshire and on the night of 24th of March he and his crew took off in Lancaster bomber ME665 for a night raid of Berlin. The aircraft came down East of Luckenwalde and exploded on impact killing Leonard and the other 7 members of the crew.
