Lord Richard Wellesley was the son of the 4th Duke of Wellington, Arthur Charles Wellesley and Kathleen Emily Bulkeley Williams. He married Lady Louise Fitzgerald, daughter of Sir Maurice Fitzgerald, 20th Knight of Kerry and 2nd Baronet of Valencia, of Mount Hill, Tadworth, Surrey. They lived at 3 Chester Street, Belgrave Square, London and Lyegrove House, Badminton

Lord Richard Wellesley was a Captain in 3 Company, 1st Battalion, Grenandier Guards. He was mentioned in dispatches. He died on the 29th October 1914 and is buried at the Hooge Crater Cemetery (Ref XVI. B. 11.) in West Vlaanderen in Belgium
