Maurice Richard Livall was born in 1897 at Gillingstool, Thornbury, to parents, George and Mary Ann Livall and brother to Fredrick George, Edith Kate and Mildred Ellen. George Lival was a Rockman in the local limestone quarry. In 1911 Maurice was employed in one of the two Concrete (Slab) Sheds in Tytherington.

Maurice enlisted in July 18th 1915 into the 8th Gloucestershire Regiment. He survived the war dying some time after on 24th August 1924. (Many died after the end of the war of war related injuries).

He was awarded the Victory and British War medals, and 1915 Star Medal.
