Further information:

Onslow Summerhill (there are several variations of spelling his first and surname across the records) was born in July 1892 in Siston, Gloucestershire. The son of Aaron and Emily Elizabeth Summerhill, he was one of eight children, his siblings were Sam, Grantley, Wilfred, Walter, Rolland, Elsie May and Doris. The family home was in Station Road, Kingswood, Bristol.

Onslow married Edith Blanche Wheeler in October 1913 in Keynsham. They lived together in Soundwell Road, Staple Hill, Bristol.

Onslow was a Milkman prior to joining up as a Private with the Royal Field Artillery (741703). Onslow was transferred to the Labour Corps, and whilst there aren’t any records, such a transfer implies he sustained injury on the battlefield. This is further borne out by the information that he died on home soil on 11 November 1918, age 26 years. He is buried in Downend Christ Churchyard, Downend, Bristol.

Commemorated on the Christ Church Downend Memorial and the Staple Hill (Page Park) Memorial.
