Percy was serving on HMS Gloucester off the Island of Crete when it was sunk by German Luftwaffe bombers Ju-88 and Ju-87 during the German invasion of Crete. The commanding officer Capt. Rowley, 45 officers and 648 more men were killed when she sank and there were no survivors.
