Percy was the son of a police officer and he joined the Armed forces at the age of 16. He served with the 35 Fortress Company, Royal Engineers. Percy fought in the Battle of Singapore which lasted a week and he was captured by the Japanese on 15th February 1942 when Singapore finally fell. He was held first as a POW in Changi Singapore then put to work on the notorious Thai-Burma Railway. He died of peritonitis 18 months after his capture and was buried in Tasao 2 Railroad Cemetery. He was reburied in the Military Cemetery in 1946.
