Percy Sheppard was born in 1885 in Bristol. The son of James and Alice, he lived in the family home in Downend, Bristol with his parents and brother, Herbert. The 1911 census shows that all the family were employed in this family business of Market Gardening, with Percy’s occupation listed as a Market Gardener.

Percy joined the Grenadier Guards, 3rd Battalion as a Private. He was injured in battle and it appears he was transferred back to the UK. He died of wounds on 13 October 1918, Theatre of War is listed as Home, and he is buried in Mangotsfield, Downend Cemetery. Commemorated on the Christ Church Downend and the Staple Hill (Page Park) Memorials. Percy is also commemorated on the Staple Hill Methodist Church Memorial.
