Further information:

Before the war Peter was a miner at the Deep Pit East Bristol and the year before his death, he was serving on a destroyer that took part in the Battle of Jutland.

On the day of Peter’s death, the destroyer HMS Pheasant, on which he was serving, was taking part in a routine patrol of the Orkney areas. The vessel departed Scapa Flow in the morning and came into contact with a mine which resulted in an explosion with the loss of all 88 lives on board.
