Robert was one of six children born to his parents and was baptised on 22nd June 1900 at Christ Church, Downend.
He served in 52nd (Graduated) Battalion, Training Reserve, Hampshire Regiment. A training unit based at Canterbury, it was part of 201st Brigade in the 67th Division but moved to Foxhall Heath (Ipswich) in March 1918. Robert Edis died at St. Helen's Hospital (Ipswich Borough Infectious Diseases Hospital) of Spanish Flu' that was rife at the time. His personal effects amounted to £2.15s.5d which was sent to his father on 6th October 1918. Robert was not eligible for a War Gratuity as he had insufficient service.
