Ralph Lewis Pratt was born about 1875 in Pontnewydd, Monmouthshire. The son of Edwin Woodhall and Rosa Pratt, he was the eldest of eight children, his siblings were Edwin Emerson, Thomas, William, Dorothy, Rosa, Walter Woodhall, Mary and Sarah.
The family home was Cleeve Lodge, Downend, Bristol. Edwin Woodhall Pratt was the founder of Pratts, a major employer in the heavy boot industry based in Kingswood, Bristol in the 1880's. Ralph worked in his father's factory as a Boot Manufacturer.
Ralph enlisted with the Gloucester Regiment, 4th (City of Bristol) Battalion or 'Bristol's own' Territorial as Captain. Ralph was Killed in Action on 18 October 1916. He is remembered at the Pont-du-Hem Military Cemetery, La Gorgue Departement du Nord, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France.
Commemorated on the Kingswood Holy Trinity Memorial, Christ Church Downend Memorial and the Staple Hill (Page Park) Memorial.
