Further information:

On the outbreak of war Arthur’s regiment were in India, and it went on to spend the whole of the war in the East. In May 1944, Raymond’s regiment was fighting in Burma in the battle of Imphal. His records state that he died rather than was killed in action and his final resting place was Chittagong Bangladesh. Since Chittagong was a base for allied forces engaged in the Burma Campaign it would suggest that Raymond was on leave or in hospital there when he died.
