Raymond married Joyce Tucker at the end of 1944.

Raymond served with the 9th Battalion Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) and died about 3 months later during the North West Europe Campaign. Raymond died in the Battle of the Reichswald in which both allied and axis forces suffered heavy losses. He was initially buried in the village of Frasselt which was the scene of some fierce fighting in the early part of February.
