Redvers was the son of a fitter. He joined the RAFVR in June 1939 as a trainee Airman Pilot and was called to full-time service on 1st September 1939. He completed his training on 20th May 1940 and joined 601 Squadron at RAF Tangmere near Chichester, making his first flight on 21st May. Redvers fought well in the battle of Britain managing to bring down in the region of 7 enemy aircraft. He was killed just 3 months after his maiden flight, when his single seater Hurricane L1990 was shot down over the Sussex coast and crashed near Pagham. He was engaged to be married at the time, to Kathleen Lilian.
