Reginald had an older brother Harry, 8 years his senior and Reginald was educated at Colston Boys School. On leaving school at the age of 16 he enlisted in the RAF as an apprentice and qualified as an aircraft fitter. At the end of 1940 he was granted a commission as a pilot officer and in 1941 was posted to the Sudan. Whilst on duty he suffered from appendicitis and was repatriated to England but died from complications.
