Reginald John Carter was born in 1898 and worked as a farm labourer on a farm near Wickwar. Enlisting in 1915, he served with the 7th Battalion, Somerset Light Infantry, he fought on the Somme in 1916 and at Ypres and Cambrai in 1917. He was posted as missing following the start of the German Spring Offensive in March 1918 and many months later was confirmed as having been Killed in Action on 23 March 1918
Reginald John Carter is remembered on the Chipping Sodbury and District War Memorial Cottage Hospital board, now at Yate and District Heritage Centre under Hawkesbury
