Richard became a Flight Sub Lieutenant with 204 Squadron in the Royal Naval Air Service. He was Killed in Action in France while flying a Sopwith Camel plane. He was shot down into the sea. Richard Hill is remembered on the Arras Flying Services Memorial in France

Richard Hill is remembered on the Yate Lych Gate Memorial and the Chipping Sodbury and District War Memorial Cottage Hospital board, which is now at Yate and District Heritage Centre, under Yate
