Further information:
Robert was born in Bristol the son of a labourer and the second eldest of four children.
Ronald’s battalion (the 11th) was created in October 1940 from a re-designation of the 50th (Holding) Battalion, and 32,000 men in 19 battalions of the Home Guard wore the badges of the Gloucestershire regiment. Ronald was accidentally killed in Yorkshire but the circumstances surrounding his death are not known. After he died and as the threat of invasion receded, most of the home defence battalions were disbanded in 1942 and 1943.
