The Air landing Anti-tank regiment were tasked with protecting the glider borne troops as they mass landed in Holland as part of operation Market Garden. During the battle of Arnhem the regiment was one of the divisional units that helped form a defensive ring around Oosterbeek. Fighting was fierce and losses were heavy with only 136 of the 372 men surviving. Ronald was killed on the last day of the battle of Arnhem.
