Ronald was born in in Springfield, Massachusetts, USA. The family returned to UK in about 1928. Ronald attended Samuel Whites School and Hanham Road Boys School. As a boy he would climb trees, pull his coat over his head and jump, making his coat act as a parachute. After he left school he moved to Cardiff with his parents. He joined the Sea Cadets Corps 1942/43 and the Army Air Corps in March 1944. He served with the 13th Battalion (2nd/4th Battalion, The South Lancashire Regiment). He was Killed in Action on the first day of the Battle for Bure
