Sidney (or Sydney) Thomas Marks was born in 1890 or 1891 in Falfield in South Gloucestershire. His parents were Thomas and Alice Marks. His parents lived at Pye Corner in Hambrook. His siblings were Bertha, Leonard, Joseph and Annie. It is possible that he had more siblings younger than himself. Sidney’s father worked as a carter on a farm and he had been born in Thornbury.

Sidney joined the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Berkshire Regiment as a private. He died in August 1917 at about the age of 27. He is buried in Tyne Cot Cemetery in Belgium.
