Further information:
Sydney was born and raised in Bolton Lancashire. He married Mary Louisa Hornby in 1929 and together they had two children.
Sydney enlisted in the Royal Artillery in 1941, later volunteering for the Maritime Regiment, and was serving on the home front at the time of his death. His army records indicate that he died rather than was killed in action. His death was registered in Barton, Lancashire, therefore it is possible that he died in nearby Whittingham Hospital which was commandeered as a military hospital during WW2. The cause of his death is unknown.
