Stephen had an older sister and was the son of a barber, whom he initially followed into the profession and at the age of 17 he was working as a hairdressing assistant. Stephen joined the RAF in 1917 and served during WW1. He married Dorothy Eva Barrett on 21st December 1920 and in 1933 they had a child Rita Dorothy. Stephen re-joined the RAF and served during WW2. His death was registered in Christchurch Dorset so he was probably stationed at RAF Hurn, but the cause of his death is unknown.
