Thomas was born in the first quarter of 1881 in Northamptonshire, the son of a bricklayer. Thomas married Eliza Ann Pullin in 1909 and their first child Violet was born the following year. A second daughter Emily was born in 1911 and Wilfred was born in 1916.
Thomas was killed in action during Operation Michael (21 March – 5 April 1918) a major German Military Offensive the outcome of which was indecisive at a cost to the allies of a quarter of million casualties.
