Further information:
Thomas was an only child and his father worked for the telegraph company. At the end of 1905, when Thomas was 11 months old, his mother Emily was admitted to a lunatic asylum, very likely suffering from post-natal depression. Sadly, she died just 3 weeks after her admission at the young age of 25. Probably as a consequence of this, in 1911 Thomas was living with an Uncle, who was a railway platelayer, and an Aunt along with five cousins. Thomas married Sarah Eleanor Seddon in 1933 and together they had a daughter, Margaret, who was 9 years old when Thomas died.
Thomas is recorded as having died rather than being killed in action or dying of wounds. His death was registered in Bermondsey, London but the cause of his death is not known.
