Further information:

Thomas was born in Bristol the son of a potter and a middle child of ten children with five sisters and four brothers.

Thomas served with "C" Battery, 71st Brigade, Royal Field Artillery and was killed in action on the first day of the Battle of Arras (9 April – 16 May 1917). The result of the battle was inconclusive as despite 150,000 casualties the allies gained little ground. Beaurains was a village captured by the allies in March 1917 and Thomas was reburied there after the Armistice when graves were brought in from surrounding battlefields.
