Thomas (Tom) Phipps attended Chipping Sodbury High School between 1920 and 1926 and later became an aircraft draughtsman (a reserved occupation) working at Parnall’s Factory in Yate. He was a corporal in the Home Guard 6th Battalion when on the 27th February 1941, aged 31, he died along with many others, during a German bombing raid on the factory where he was working.
