Walter Thomas Dowsell was born in 1887 the son of Thomas and Hester Dowsell and brother to Frederick Dowsell who also died in the war. His parents married in 1886 and his mother died in 1896 aged 35. His father remarried Fanny Bezer in 1898

Walter served with the 6th Battalion, Princess Charlotte of Wales's (Royal Berkshire Regiment) as Private 12647. Walter died in France on the 28th of August 1915, at the age of 28 years. He is buried in the Norfolk Cemetery, Ref: I. A. 4.,Becordel-Becourt, France

Frederick is remembered along side his brother on the Chipping Sodbury and District War Memorial Cottage Hospital board, now in Yate and District Heritage Centre
