Wilfred married Alice Evelyn Jones in 1942. At the time of his death he was stationed at the Royal Navy base at Ras el-Tin Point, Alexandria, Egypt, which was in operation between April 1939 and June 1946 and was officially referred to as HMS Nile. Wilfred died in the Royal Naval Auxiliary Hospital Alexandria from a fractured skull following an accidental fall.
