Wilfred George Varlow was born in 1881 at Frampton Cotterell. He was the son of George and Elizabeth Varlow of 12 Upper Stone Close, Frampton Cotterell. His father George worked as a carpenter at the colliery and he had been born in Frampton Cotterell. Wilfred had an older brother called Francis. Wilfred worked at Harrods in London as a leather goods salesman
Wilfred served with the Howitzer Brigade of the Royal Marine Artillary as a gunner. He died on the 25th July 1917 and is remembered on the Dozinghem Military Cemetery, Belgium (Ref: I. A. 15)
