In 1917 William sent a postcard to a Miss R Davis who also lived in Hopewell Hill, which just confirmed he was well.

William served with the 1st Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment and died on 6/06/1918 (missing after 27 May, date of death presumed by authorities).

William Britton is commemorated on the Downend Christ Church Memorial and the Staple Hill Page Park Memorial.
