William was born in 1889 (1st Quarter) in Staple Hill / Fishponds, Bristol. His birth registration was William Thomas Brown, but the Thomas was not recorded on most records. William married Rosina Beatrice Guest but unable to trace William and Rosina's marriage. The pension record card records that their daughter Kathleen Iris Rosina Button Brown who was born on 2 July 1917 was born out of wedlock. After the war Rosina Brown married a Uriah Shepherd in 1921.
William served with the 12th Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment and was Killed in Action on 14/04/1918.
