William Charles was born in 1890 (2nd Quarter) and Baptised at St John the Baptist Church, Frenchay on 29/06/1890.

The 1911 Census records that William was a servant at the Bristol Hotel Chapel Hill, Clevedon and his job was given as a Billiard Marker. William married Mabel Isabel Plumley in 1913 in Clevedon. Mabel was born and brought up in Clevedon (she was born in 1888 and worked as a laundress). William and Mabel had one son, Eric William born 5 June 1914.

William Charles served with the 64th Battery, 5th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery and was Killed in Action on 29/08/1918.

William is also commemorated on the Fishponds Park memorial and St Mary's Church, Fishponds Roll of Honour.
