William Mauler was a local boy from Frenchay, a scout, choir boy, server at the alter of Frenchay Church. William was one of the earliest of the local boys to join up in 1914

He served with the "D" Battery, 59th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. On foreign service he was sent to Alexandria, Gallipoli and then France

William was killed on the 10th November 1916. A Gas shell fell on the edge of his dug out about 4am and filled it with gas before he could get his gas helmet on. He would have been 21 years old on the 19th November 1916

William is buried in the Boozincourt Military Cemetery (Ref. II.I.24.), France
