William was the youngest of 4 children with two older sisters and an older brother. In 1891 his mother and two of his older siblings were living in Keynsham workhouse but by 1901 his mother had married and all 4 children took their step-father’s name. By 1911 William’s mother was widowed and William and his siblings reverted to the name Bryant.

William enlisted in 1914 in the Army Cyclist Corps then went on to serve in the 2nd/4th Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment on the Western Front. He was wounded probably during the Flanders offensive and was awarded a wound stripe. He died at home from his wounds. His death was registered in Newcastle.
