William Graham Luton was born in about 1896 in Winterbourne. His parents were Daniel and Mary Luton. He was brother to Daniel, Shadrack, Olive and Percy. William’s father worked as a general labourer and he had been born in Westerleigh. His mother worked as a tailoress and she had been born in Winterbourne.
William joined the 1st/5th Battalion of the Gloucestershire Regiment as a private. William died on 4th November 1918 at the age of 22. He is buried in Landrecies British Cemetery in France. He is also remembered on the war memorial in All Saints Churchyard in Winterbourne Down and on the Whiteshill Common War Memorial (Winterbourne Down face) in Hambrook.
