William Matthews was from Yate. He enlisted in Tonypandy in Glamorganshire. He joined the 6th Battalion of the Prince Albert’s Regiment (Somerset Light Infantry). He was Killed in Action in the Battle of the Somme in August 1916. He is buried in Thiepval in France
