Further information:

John was born in Hinton Gloucestershire, the second youngest of four children with a brother and two sisters. His father died when John was just 12 months old and in 1901 his widowed mother was running the Village Farm in Littleton. According to the 1911 census, the family had moved to Prospect Farm, Littleton-upon-Severn and his mother was continuing to farm. John would have signed up for his war service but the details of this have not been found.

John married Gertrude M Simmonds in 1927 and his son, also John, was born in 1938. In 1939 John and Gertrude were living at the post office Littleton-upon- Severn where Gertrude was sub-postmistress and John was working as a clerk. At the time of his death in 1974, John had been living in Sharpness. The cause of his death was unlikely to have been war related. John served and returned and died 3rd quarter of 1974.
