Fred married Ellen Chappell on 24/10/1908, Hawkesbury Upton. Fred and Ellen had two children, Frederick George Whiting born 16/03/1910 and William Thomas Francis Whiting born 6/07/1916. Ellen married a William Watts in 1924.
Fred Whiting initially enlisted with the Gloucestershire Regiment (service numbers 6009 and 202156), he then transferred to the Royal Engineers (Service No. 497955) before a final transfer to the Royal Engineers transport section and his service No. WR/30811.
Fred Whiting is remembered on the Chipping Sodbury and District War Memorial Cottage Hospital board, now at Yate and District Heritage Centre under Hawkesbury.
