Married: Alice George was born in St Bride’s Middlesex, the son of a bookbinder. He joined the Navy as an ordinary seaman on his 18th birthday in 1878. George had fair hair, grey eyes and a pale complexion and after 10 years in the Navy had grown to 5’ 4” in height. His first ship was the Fisgard and he became an armourer in 1881. George married Alice Ann Frost, first wife in 1884 and left the Navy in 1908. In 1911 he was living in Portsmouth with two daughters and a son.

George re-joined the Navy in 1914 and served throughout the war years. His last ship was the Victory II until March 1918. In January 1918 he was a widower when he married Clara Williams and he moved from Portsmouth to live with her in Kingswood. Two and a half years later George died from malignant disease of the kidney.
