In 1939 William was living with his mother, a younger brother and 2 younger sisters in Coronation Road Bristol and serving as an ARP warden.

William’s regiment took part in the Burma Campaign and William died fighting the Japanese in the Battle of the Admin Box. This took place on the Burmese Southern front and lasted from the 5th to the 23rd February 1944 - it was ultimately a victory for the allies.
