Councillors on the Environment and Community Services Committee have given the go ahead for a feasibility study to be drawn up for a new motorway junction on the M4 at Emersons Green.
Funding of £500,000 has been secured from the Department for Transport towards the study, which will look at all the options of linking the M4 with the A4174 ring road with a new junction, 18a. The study will be steered jointly by the council and Highways England.
A key aim of the scheme is to ease congestion in this part of South Gloucestershire and provide better access to employment hubs such as the Emersons Green Enterprise Area, home to the Bristol and Bath Science Park.
Following today’s decision, officers will get the technical work under way and appoint CH2M to work on the project. Work on the study is due to be completed in 2018.
As part of the study, there will be opportunities for people to give their views. Further details will be provided at a later date.
The committee’s decision was made on 9 November.
