Events and activities are taking place across South Gloucestershire during Carers Week (12 to 18 June).
On Wednesday 14 June, from 9am to 1pm, South Gloucestershire Council, Avon and Wiltshire Partnership Trust and South Gloucestershire Dementia Action Alliance will be providing information for carers of people with mental health issues or dementia at Tesco in Yate shopping centre. All are welcome to come along to meet health professionals, social services and a selection of voluntary services.
On Thursday 15 June, from 10.30am to 1pm, the Carers Support Centre are hosting a carers open meeting at the Vassall Centre in Bristol, which includes NHS health checks for eight attendees (aged between 40 and 74). Please book an appointment with the Carers Support Centre on 0117 9652200.
On Thursday 15 June, from 2pm to 4pm, South Gloucestershire Council’s public health team are running a session to promote positive health at Park Centre, Kingswood (as part of the regular Kingswood Carers Group). New members are always welcome to the Kingswood Carers Group, contact the Carers Support Centre on 0117 9652200 for more details.
On Friday 16 June, from 12 noon until 3.30pm, there is a carers lunch event hosted by the Thornbury Carers Group at the Chantry in Thornbury, where attendees can learn how to do hand massage and take part in art therapy. On Monday 12 June, Bristol and Avon Chinese Women’s Group are holding a group day trip to Plymouth for Chinese carers (coach leaves Bristol at 8.30am and returns at approximately 7.30pm, £5 carers/group members/children under 5, £10 non-members). Throughout Carers Week there will be information stalls in the atriums of the BRI and Southmead Hospital hosted by the Carers Support Centre and other organisations. The hospitals are launching their new carers strategy and carers’ logo, and aim to ensure that staff are able to support carers more effectively when they use hospital services.
