Albert joined the Royal Artillery in 1937 and in 1945 was sent to the Middle East. On the way, his regiment was diverted to the Far East to defend British Malaya from the Japanese. They were ill-equipped and their fight against overwhelming odds ended in capture in Java in March 1942. Albert was imprisoned in Changi POW camp, Singapore and transferred in 1943 to Lintang Camp Kuching Sarawak where he died and was buried in 1945. Albert was later reburied in Labuan War Cemetery. His estate went to Ernest Wiltshire, General Engineer.
