He married Viola Emily Mildred Meeking Lady Apsley, C.B.E in 1924. She succeeded him as Member of Parliament for Bristol Central.
1st Royal Gloucestershire Hussars, Royal Armoured Corps, British Army
Served in the First World War 1915-1919. Achieved his MA from Christchurch Oxford in 1919 and became a JP. He was Deputy Lieutenant for the County of Gloucestershire; Member of Parliament for Southampton, 1922-1929, and Bristol, 1931-1942 and President of the United Kingdom Pilots' Association. In 1942 as well as Major in the 1st Gloucestershire Hussars he was also Colonel of The Arab Legion which he was commanding on Malta when he died. He was a passenger on a routine ferry flight, in RAF Halifax 138, to Gibraltar, when he was killed along with 16 others. The plane developed engine problems after take off and the pilot returned but crashed while attempting to land
