David was the only son of a Kingswood boot manufacturer and had 3 sisters, Barbara, Pauline and Pamela.

David enlisted in the RAF in 1941 and was stationed at RAF Kilmington, Devon. At 16.25 hours on the 20th January Lancaster R5862 took off from base on a night bombing raid of Berlin. The aircraft was intercepted at 22,000 feet by a night fighter over Berlin and shot down, crashing in the target area and killing David and the other 4 crew members.
