2nd (Oban) Airlanding Anti-Tank Regiment, Royal Artillery.

Dennis fought in the North West Europe Campaign. The Air landing Anti-tank regiment were tasked with protecting the glider borne troops as they mass landed in Holland at the beginning of Monty’s failed initiative Operation Market Garden. The battalion arrived in the Arnhem area on the 18th September tasked with securing bridges across the River Rhine. Dennis was reported as missing believed prisoner of war, which was later changed to killed in action, 3 days before the battalion retreated from the Battle of Arnhem. Of the original 158 men and officers, only 58 survived the operation.
