Ernest Edward Burston served with the 7th Battalion, Hampshire Regiment.

On 22nd June 1944, the 7th Hampshires landed on the Normandy beaches and during the month of July took part in the general operation for the breakout from Normandy, Operation Bluecoat, during which they faced severe opposition and suffered many casualties. Ernest was killed in action during the advance towards Mont Pincon. He was initially buried at Longraye in France before being reburied in the Military Cemetery.
